About ECM
Every Cat Matters (ECM) was established in 2017 in response to the urgent needs of stray, abandoned, and injured cats in the UAE. The scale of the stray cat population, combined with the lack of shelters and limited resources for animal welfare in the region, made it clear that dedicated support was desperately needed.

Early Efforts & Rescue Work

The charity began by setting up a feeding station in Abu Dhabi, with the help of volunteers and supporters both locally and internationally. These early efforts highlighted the overwhelming challenges faced by many cats living on the streets - vulnerable kittens, elderly cats, those with injuries or illnesses, and others lacking the skills to survive alone.

Rescue, Rehabilitation & Rehoming

To give these cats a second chance, ECM developed a comprehensive rescue and relocation programme. Most cats receive essential medical treatment and rehabilitation locally before being carefully transported to the UK. Once here, they join loving foster homes or are adopted directly into their forever families, ensuring a smooth transition into a safe and caring environment.

Our Impact

Since its founding, ECM has helped and rehomed over 1,000 cats and kittens. The charity has grown to become the first registered organisation in England and Wales dedicated to supporting the welfare of stray and abandoned cats in the UAE. Its ongoing work is powered by a committed network of volunteers, foster carers, adopters, and supporters who share a passion for giving these cats a second chance.

Our Mission Going Forward

ECM’s mission continues to evolve - combining rescue and rehoming with education and advocacy to raise awareness about animal welfare challenges in the region and encourage more sustainable, community-based solutions.
